Despite the wealth of information extracted during the recent experiments carried out in our lab, the detailed description of the enzymatic toolbox and its use, along with the detailed community succession and the microbial interaction modes are yet to be elucidated.
We are going to exploit detailed meta- genomic/transcriptomic/bolomic approaches combined with stable isotope probing (in line with our previous research and preliminary results glimpsed in this website) and appropriate statistics in order to assess the interactions at a systems level.
We are furthermore going to characterize involved enzymes via synthetic biology methods.
Finally, we will assess the performance of the consortium in real-world conditions in membrane bioreactors.
